Food allergy is a common reaction in humans especially in babies..so many mothers must have experienced this. Food allergy is also know as food hypersensitivity. It happens when the immune system reacts in an unpleasant manner after a certain (group of) food is eaten. The reaction may be mild or even dangerous for example:
Itchy throat and tongue.
Swollen lips and throat.
Running or blocked nose.
Sore, red and itchy eyes.
Common foods that triggers allergies:
Nuts( tree and peanuts).
Shellfish. 📌What to do: read food labels carefully, do away with foods that has labels that are silent on allergens. 📌 Wait for at least two days before continuing with foods that triggers allergies after first introduction to observe possible reactions…this is call the two days waiting rule. …it also important to introduce allergy foods in small amount one at a time as this helps to identify any reaction fast enough.
Though research have shown that it is advisable to introduce foods that can trigger allergies to babies as soon as solid foods are introduced ( from 6months) . this will help to minimize the risk of allergy.
Introducing allergen foods late may increase the risk of developing an allergy to those foods . a lot of children outgrow milk and egg allergy but peanuts allergy is generally life long.
